Permission Error

Who should use this guide

Use this page when Windows says access is denied, the updater cannot write files, or the client cannot complete an action because of local permissions.

Before you begin

- Note the exact wording of the error - Confirm the client folder is local and writable - Close duplicate processes that may lock files

Steps

1

Identify the blocked action

Determine whether the error happens during install, update, launch, login, or a device action. The fix depends on which file or folder is blocked.
2

Move the client to a simple writable folder

Use a user-owned path such as `Desktop\Mshop` or `Downloads\Mshop` instead of a protected location.
3

Run the required step again with the correct permission level

If the action requires elevation, approve that prompt once. Do not keep relaunching the client with mixed privilege levels.
4

Check security tools if the error persists

If the same file or folder is still blocked, compare the behavior against Windows Security Warning Explanation.

Common questions

Does every install need administrator rights?

Not always. It depends on the product, folder path, and what Windows is protecting on that machine.

Why does the update fail with access denied?

The most common reasons are locked files, protected folders, or a security tool blocking file replacement.

I fixed permissions once, but the error came back after update.

New builds can trigger a fresh check. Reconfirm the folder path and security behavior after each major update.
